Casey Neistat has multiple different social media platforms in the spring of 2020. To give a little back story of who Casey Neistat is, we need to go all the way back to his early filmmaking days. Casey first gained international attention in 2003 when he produced a three minute film titled “IPod’s Dirty Secret”. The video was posted on the internet on September 20, 2003 and quickly gained the attraction of the media. The film was praised as “wonderfully renegade” by the Washington post. In 2008 Casey and his brother Van Neistat created the eight episode television series called “The Neistat Brothers”. In 2010 Casey created some YouTube videos. One video in particular focused on when to and when not to use the emergency break cord on train cars in New York City. It was a successful video. One of his most iconic videos on youtube was uploaded on June 7, 2011. This film was about how he got a ticket from the NYC Police Department for not riding his bike in the bike lane. He expressed in the video that the bike lanes are often blocked and doesn’t give the bikers the ability to ride in those lanes. The movie was a hit and was shared in news media everywhere.
In addition to creating youtube videos, Casey has worked with various companies such as Samsung, Nike, Google, J.Crew, and Mercedes-Benz. In the summer of 2015 he created his own video sharing social media app called “BEME” which was later bought out by CNN. In April of 2018 Neistat announced that he had a new project called 368, a place where creatives could collaborate and create together. He has appeared in TED talks around the globe. He has won multiple awards such as the 2016 YouTuber of the year, 2016 Entertainer of the year, 2017 Cinematography (Streamy Awards), and was nominated for countless others.
Casey Neistat on social media has been a good time to say the least. As of January 2020 he has a twitter, instagram, tiktok, youtube, and Facebook. That being said, Casey took a break from all social medias, deleting the apps off of his phones. His break started in March of 2019 and lasted most of the rest of the year. He had realized that they had become an addiction and an unhealthy one at that. The titan of filmmaking keep making YouTube videos and eventually made it back to social media in the early months of 2020. He is using social media in mediation now because of the effects he saw it take on him in early 2019. His content is all over the place but he is best know for his amazing story telling abilities which he implements into each of his posts.
Casey Neistat has been one of my greatest inspirations throughout the years and I enjoy learning from what he does as well as listening to his insane story telling abilities.
